Ava Ferin was a R.A.F.T. captain and the older sister of Jay Ferin.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Ava was initially described as having dark brown hair, which was later retconned to the same fiery orange hair as most of the Ferin family. According to Lizzie, her face looks extremely similar to Jay’s.
As a child, she is seen wearing a school uniform, presumably for a navy school. A very short red cape covers the neckline of her white button up shirt, which is tied at the waist by a large red ribbon. They wear a navy blue skirt with gold trimmings at the hem, and simple brown shoes over ruffled white socks.
During the Shadowskull Massacre, she was wearing the R.A.F.T. captain’s uniform. It is an elaborate white coat with golden accents and the R.A.F.T. captain’s symbol of a stylized sun on the back.
Personality[]
Not much is known about Ava’s personality, but they are described by Lizzie as strong, tactical, and above all a leader. She was very inspirational, and was a role model to many people including Jay, Lizzie, and Cedric. It is unclear exactly where her ideals lay pertaining to freedom of pirates and reform of the navy but she likely had a very similar disposition to Jay and Kira in wanting to change the navy for the better from the inside. From a very young age she had aspired to be a soldier, going into training early in her life. She was not fully against piracy, shown through her traitorous relationship with Lizzie.
History[]
It’s assumed that Ava Ferin was born on Featherbrook Island and lived there in her formative years. At some point in their childhood they wrote "be safe daddy :)" on the back of Jayson Ferin's anti-magic pin, as a message for him before he left on a long work trip. She grew up training to be a R.A.F.T. soldier under her father, eventually rising to the rank of captain. They were a very talented soldier, and as tensions between pirates and the navy rose they fought pirates more and more often.
Eventually, they met Elizabeth Lafayette while she was a crewmate on Captain Shadowbeard’s crew. The two fought at first, and their mutual skill created a rivalry. They began to seek each other out, and eventually started meeting in private. Their budding relationship was kept a secret by both of them, as they would both be deemed traitors by their sides if anyone found out. They still each fought for their respective teams, keeping up the act so they could keep seeing each other. As their trust grew, Lizzie brought Ava to Shadowbeard’s Hideout, a remote island claimed by Captain Shadowbeard. The pair was caught in a naval ambush of the island, and Ava was forced to fight on the side of the navy. Getting into hand-to-hand combat with Shadowbeard himself, Ava was beginning to gain the upper hand against the pirate lord. Then, a command was given to the R.A.F.T. soldiers to open fire on both of them. Despite Lizzie's pleas to spare him, Ava would have been able to kill Captain Shadowbeard if both of them had not died immediately in the gunfire. The battle was known by the navy as the Transgress War, and by pirates as the Shadowskull Massacre. This was likely done as a tactical move by the navy to use Ava as a martyr and an excuse to further outlaw pirates, pinning the violence and death on Shadowbeard's remaining crew.
When traversing the B.L.O.C.K., Jay gets a vision of Chip killing Ava and claiming that all of the Navy needed to die to achieve peace.
