The Black Rose Pirates were a famous crew of pirates consisting of Arlin James, Drey Ferin, Finn Tidestrider and their leader, Captain Rose. Chip and Lizzie both lived together with the rest of the crew as adopted wards up until the Black Rose Pirates' eventual disappearance post encounter with the Hole in the Sea.
The Ship of the Black Rose Pirates was called the Midnight Rose.

History[]
Prior to the Black Rose One-shot, the crew aboard the Midnight Rose spent most of their time on the sea, engaging in various pirate activities and traveling over the oceans. At some point, during this time, Arlin James met a young orphan boy with no name who wished to join the crew. Enamored by the kid's insistence to join (and notably his mixup with the word 'chip' and 'ship), Arlin adopted the boy, now named Chip, onto the ship as his ward.
After years of travelling, the crew decided to celebrate one last voyage before Captain Rose ultimately retired and the crew disbanded. However, upon the final party of the Black Rose Crew, they pirates encountered a whirlpool leading to the Hole in the Sea. There, the crew was attacked by a kraken and a group of humanoid sludge monsters. The ship ultimately went down and the Captain Rose, Finn, Drey and Arlin were lost in the swirling whirlpool.
The rest of the crew's known whereabouts after the wreck are left only to rumours and speculation from those who revered the Black Rose Pirates.
The only known survivors as of yet are Lizzie, Chip, Roofus, Drey Ferin, and Finn Tidestrider.
