Drey Ferin is a human ranger, uncle of Jay Ferin, and former Black Rose Pirate. While played by Condifiction (Condi) in The Hole in the Sea, he is now currently an NPC played by GrizzlyPlays (Grizzly) in the Riptide campaign.

Appearance[]
In The Hole in the Sea, Drey “Sureshot” Ferin is a 27 year-old human man with long, semi-unkempt, black hair that reaches his shoulders and is partially tied up into a bun. He has a little stubble on the chin and he wears an eyepatch over his right eye, which conceals his heterochromia. His right eye is described as looking amber/red or gold in color, whereas his left, visible, eye is blue. Underneath a long-sleeved black coat he wears a blue collared v-neck shirt strung together by laces. He wears brown cotton pants tucked into black boots. Around his neck he wears the Ferin family crest -- an eagle flying freely over a sunset, as a necklace.
In Episode 52: Death March, we are reintroduced to Drey, around 10 years from the last time he was seen in canon. He has grown significantly older at this point, estimated to be around 37 years-old. His physical appearance has changed in effect of time and being worn down by the rooms of The B.L.O.C.K. His hair is much longer and much more unkempt and flecked with gray. He has a rough salt-and-peppered goatee and where his eyepatch used to be now remains a long scar, keeping his right eyelid closed. His shirt is torn and dirtied and he no longer has his coat, but the eagle pin still remains. For a currently unknown reason, Drey has lost mobility in both his arms as they are now completely paralyzed. His arms are now a deep reddish-purple bruised color and are scarred over. His chest and torso are also covered in many scars, and a large tattoo of a shifting map with celestial coordinates now covers his back.
In Episode 87: Swimming in Circles his appearance changed. He wears all black clothes, a deep v-neck shirt, a long pirate captain coat with gold filigree and accentuated collar, a deep blue scarf pinned by his old Ferin pin that matches with the same-colored sash around his waist, an oversized belt, and custom-made arm slings/restrictions that act as leather armor.

Personality[]
Drey Ferin is an independent, strong-willed, confident, carefree and loyal man with a heart for adventure. He is intelligent and supposedly well educated, as well as being fairly quick-witted and a very skilled marksman. He can be competitive, as seen in The Hole in the Sea during his arm wrestle with fellow crew member, helmsman, and friend, Jug.
Background/History[]
Prior to Black Rose One-shot[]
Not much is currently known about Drey’s past before the Black Rose, but we are given a small glimpse into it during a flashback sequence in Episode 2: The Final Voyage of the Black Rose Pirates.
Drey, estimated to be around 19 to 22 years-old during this time, is described as having a very bright light in his eyes as he sets out to become an adventurer. His reasoning for setting out, away from his family, being to come back with a story to tell, a story that would make his father proud of him, for once. He wanted to be somebody, to do something important, to prove himself and be strong. Unbeknownst to him at that time, he would get just that when his one-man boat collides with the Midnight Rose.
He is invited aboard by one Captain Beau T. Rose, who he would be meeting for the first time that day, as well as crew members Arlin James and Finn Tidestrider. At first he is hesitant to climb aboard out of fear he will be treated the same way he has his whole life, as a worthless, unappreciated person with no purpose or goal or direction, but the feeling fades over time.
Joining the crew, Drey is affectionately given the nickname “Sureshot” by Captain Rose, named after his marksmanship.
Black Rose One-Shot[]
Drey was a member of the Black Rose Pirates for an estimation of around 5 to 8 years before the Midnight Rose was sunk by what seemed like an unexpected kraken attack and a whirlpool opening in the sea in the first part of the one-shot, The Hole In The Sea.
Drey was one of the last crew members left on deck as the ship went down, along with Jug and a young Chip.
He woke up in an underground tunnel beneath the sea, along with Finn and Arlin at the beginning of The Final Voyage.
They walk through these caverns, through what appears to be a desolate civilization filled with buildings that appear to be falling but frozen in time, down a long staircase with hieroglyphs and words in Abyssal covering it’s walls, and towards a large brass door. There, they find Captain Rose, who is not exactly their captain anymore, having had the entire left side of his body taken over by a black tar-like substance. Through much reluctance, protest, and tears, Drey ends up being the one to strike the killing blow to their Captain; something that will continue to haunt him forever. He mentions in Riptide Episode 56: Mystery and Misery that feels he needs to make up for what happened.
At the end of these caverns, the crew walks into a room filled with mountains of more treasure and riches than they’ve ever seen. In the center of this room is what appears to be an egg sitting atop a pedestal. Drey grabs the egg and promptly causes the "end" of the Black Rose crew via this action, as the room filled with shadow and each crew member became encompassed in black shadowy tendrils, they all lose consciousness.
Riptide Campaign[]
As being part of the Ferin family, Drey has immediate ties to the Navy, although it is currently unknown whether or not he actually served in the Navy. We don’t know what his exact relationship with his family was/is, but it is implied to be not-so-great; as he is treated as almost an outcast. According to Jay Ferin in Episode 56: Mystery and Misery, Drey has been gone for about 15 to 18 years.
In Episode 56: Mystery and Misery Drey talks a bit about his family with Jay, as she struggles between staying loyal to her friends and not wanting to hurt her family. Drey believes that being a pirate is not turning against his family, but by his family not supporting him for living a life he wanted that they were turning against him.
He says that there wasn’t always as much tension between the Navy and pirates during the Black Rose era; in fact, he’d been able to work side-by-side with his brother Jayson Ferin when it became necessary. He also mentions that during this time he could sense that Jayson was growing a sort of disdain towards him for who he was. He adds on as well that he believes Jayson had intended to kill him when he showed up in The B.L.O.C.K. in Episode 52: Death March.
In Episode 56: Mystery and Misery, Drey tries to recount the events of the oneshot, and what happened to him afterwards. However, this proves difficult as he has developed some sort of amnesia, likely due to the trauma of being in The B.L.O.C.K for a decade plus the events of what he’s been through.
He starts off by saying he woke up on a strange beach in the middle of nowhere, where he met a cowboy-esque character who brought him into a small shantytown. This character could've potentially been Ichabod, judging by Grizzly's mention of him seeming familiar to Drey. Regardless, Drey stayed with him there for a while, saying he fit in as a gunslinger. He mentions as well that when he woke up the shifting tattoo of the map was on his back had appeared, for reasons he doesn’t know.
Eventually he left this town on a mission to find his crew, supposedly joined by this cowboy man. He states they got into some serious trouble, and that something had happened to him and he passed out again.
He woke up in handcuffs and surrounded by the Navy, where he was then imprisoned in The B.L.O.C.K by Jayson. There, he just barely survived going through hundreds of rooms over and over, making it back to the center over 50 times. He lost his gun at some point, as well as his arms becoming so injured they were permanently paralyzed.
He was alone in this prison for 10 years, but according to Grizzly’s DM notes, to Drey it had only felt like 5 months.
Drey has since been with the Riptide Pirates, sometimes in a comatose-like state, only being awake for a few hours at a time. He is currently set on the goal to find Finn Tidestrider, Arlin James, and the other remaining Black Rose Pirates. He sometimes cooks for the crew, using his feet, and hangs out with Oliver and the other crew members here and there. As of Episode 115: The Last Chapter, Drey has entered the Hole with Chip, Gillion, and Gryffon, though his current location is unknown.

Captain Rose[]
Captain Rose was the captain of the Midnight Rose and a friend to its crew. He was the first of the Black Rose Pirates that Drey met, and gained his signature nickname “Sureshot” from. Rose had been a close friend to Drey for several years. Drey admired him highly as he is described to Drey by Grizzly as being “an angel in your eyes. He is the sexiest man you’ve ever seen before.” Drey held a lot of gratitude towards Rose, claiming he’d saved his life.
In Rose’s final stand, Drey is the most reluctant to attack him, further showing his loyalty. He also tried getting the captain to return to himself by speaking of past memories, of drinks shared and adventures had, to little avail. The death of his dear captain, as well as the circumstances of it, has haunted Drey for years as he constantly works towards a way to make up for what had happened.
Arlin James[]
Arlin is a fellow crew member and close friend of Drey. He and Drey have obviously been close for quite awhile as they exchange friendly banter and conversation with a strong sense of familiarity and trust between them. Drey wholeheartedly believes that Arlin must be alive, and is on an ongoing journey to find him.
Finn Tidestrider[]
Finn is a fellow crew member, close friend, and teacher/mentor to Drey. Most of the time on screen, we are shown Finn and Drey have a sort of student-teacher dynamic, as Finn teaches him about different aquatic creatures and urges him to work on studies. This dynamic is further shown with Finn almost exclusively referring to Drey as “Young Ferin”. They are very good friends and have been for quite some time as we can see in the ways they interact together. Drey is convinced that Finn is alive as well, and it is his current goal to find him. He believes that if anyone would know something about the map on his back it would be Finn.
Chip[]
Chip was once known to Drey as a boy who traveled aboard the Midnight Rose playing pranks and watching the crew with starry-eyes. In The Hole in the Sea, Drey protects him during the storm and tries to comfort him. In a flashback scene in Episode 15: The Chip on My Shoulder, we see Drey giving a light-hearted lecture to Chip about pulling pranks.
And now, a decade later, Drey reunites, with a now adult, Chip. Drey refers to Chip as if he is still a child, calling him “little buddy”, ”little man”, ”kid”, and so on. In Episode 56: Mystery and Misery, he mentions being sad that he wasn’t there to see Chip grow up. In this same episode he has a conversation with both Chip and Jay, informing them of his past and his current goal, but also offering to help the crew.
Elizabeth Lafayette[]
Lizzie was aboard the Midnight Rose as a child, alongside Chip. She and Drey obviously knew each other, but their exact relationship hasn’t yet been discussed. Currently, due his amnesiac-like state, Drey has no memory of her at all. Lizzie is very angry with Drey, and all of the Black Rose crew in general, for having taken her aboard the ship in the first place and placing a child into an awful situation after the ship sank. She blames the Black Rose Pirates for that and leaving her stranded and alone at age 11, and for the death of Chey, a former crew member. Although Drey basically doesn’t know her, he believes she has a just reason for being angry with him. He just can’t remember.
Jay Ferin[]
Jay is Drey’s niece who hasn’t seen him in years. In fact, prior to Riptide it is unknown if the two were really that close. Jay had believed him to be dead, until they found and rescued him from The B.L.O.C.K. Drey does care for her, as he makes a promise to help her and the Riptide crew anyway he can. In Episode 56: Mystery and Misery, Drey and Jay have a conversation about what it entails to be a pirate and a Ferin, and if it’s possible to do both.
Jayson Ferin[]
Jayson is Drey's brother. Jayson actively hates him. Drey himself doesn’t hold nearly as much disdain towards Jayson, but Jayson has made his hatred very clear, stating that he doesn’t even consider Drey to be his brother, and that Drey has “cursed blood”. Jayson is responsible for imprisoning Drey inThe B.L.O.C.K and torturing him for 10 years. Drey believes that Jayson had intended to finally kill him when he made his appearance in Episode 52: Death March. Their relationship before all this hasn't really been discussed, besides Drey mentioning having worked with him during the years of the Black Rose.

Sureshot Pistol[]
The Sureshot pistol is an ornately designed flintlock pistol that belonged to Drey. It’s made from white marble and black steel. Along the side is a golden engraving in the design of an eagle, with two retractable wings that stick out of the sides of the gun. When the gun is fired it sounds akin to an eagle. It is also flavored that Drey casts certain spells by firing them out of the gun.
Drey mentions in Episode 52: Death March that he lost the pistol somewhere in The B.L.O.C.K, and it’s current whereabouts are unknown.
