"These people need homes now. I can't afford that. I'm putting some of them to work already."

Ensa is a human artificer NPC who lives on the island of Canella, she is played by GrizzlyPlays.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Ensa is a human woman. She has brown skin with warmer undertones and bright, piercing blue eyes. She is muscular and medium height. Her hair is curly and mostly purple with silver at the ends, and she frequently ties it up in a high ponytail with various tools sticking through it. Her shirt is a solid white tube top. Around her shoulders is a backpack that is the same color as her shiny, black mechanic’s gloves that go a bit past her elbows. Black pants with iridescent purple accents cover up a mechanical left peg leg she has presumably built herself. Her leg is missing just below the knee, and she can take the peg leg on and off. Her right shoe is solid black. Tied around her waist is a large gray jacket with blue accents on the sleeves, and her weapon of choice is a small handheld firearm that resembles what we would know as a staple gun.

Personality[]

Ensa is very strongwilled and determined, initially refusing all help from the pirates with defeating the monsters that had taken over her house. She is very self reliant and stubborn, but she also has a softer side and gets attached to people easily. Her only friends are the crew and she warmed up to them very quickly, expressing interest in joining them on their journey only a few days after knowing them. She spends much of her time building and tinkering, and is very talented and passionate about her inventions. She has always wanted to get out and see the world, which is part of the reason she wanted to join the Riptide Pirates.

Background/History[]

Ensa lived on the island of Canella her whole life, and had never been out to sea before meeting the Riptide Pirates. When her great grandfather died, his house in the mountains was left empty. She moved into the house and started working on a large project, a teleportation circle that would let her travel anywhere in the world.

A couple of months after she moved into the house, Chip pulled the Throne card from the deck of many things. This card gave him magical ownership of a small keep somewhere in the world, except the keep was filled with monsters that needed to be defeated for the keep to be rightfully claimed. This keep happened to be Ensa’s house, and she suddenly found her home and workshop infested with will-o-wisps and invisible stalkers. She spent weeks fighting with them by herself, sometimes going back down to the town of Zero for supplies and medical attention.

When the Riptide Pirates arrived on Canella, they heard her screaming in the mountains. Gillion, Jay, Chip, and Ollie went to investigate and were met with a beaten, bloodied Ensa being thrown out of the door of the house. They offered to help her defeat the monsters, but when Chip stepped into the house he magically realized this was rightfully his keep. He promptly claimed the house as his own and started throwing Ensa’s belongings out of windows, much to Ensa’s dismay and frustration. Chip and Gillion were thoroughly beaten by the monsters in the house, and after a short time they gave up and went back outside to rest. Jay assisted Ensa in recovering the papers Chip had thrown out of the house, and Ensa told them she didn’t need their help. Nonetheless, after they rested up they stormed back into the keep. She told them not to destroy the teleportation circle in the back tower, and while they defeated the monsters they did not listen to her warnings and the circle was destroyed. When the combat was over, a magical deed appeared and Chip signed Ensa’s name on it. He said he didn’t need a house, and she could keep it. It was still magically his, but he allowed Ensa to stay in it under the condition she let Ollie and his mother, Ella Teach, stay too.

When the pirates left to Featherbrook, the entire pirate crew stayed in the keep with Ensa. She made friends with many of them, and by the time the captains had returned she was happy to let Ollie and his mother stay with her. Chip asked her if she wanted to join their crew, and she said she wanted to but couldn’t because someone needed to take care of the house and the now fully functioning teleportation circle. They built another circle on the Albatross, giving Ensa the ability to teleport to them once a day. They planned to teach Ollie how to maintain the house and the teleportation circle so that one day, Ensa could take the oath and become a pirate full time. She assisted Jay in integrating Alphonze into their ship, and with her help the Albatross was repaired and they could leave.

When they departed from Canella, they tested out the circles and teleported Ensa onto the ship. Ensa happily greeted all the crew members, and enjoyed her first time at sea before returning to her home. While the pirates were sneaking into Allport they sent their crew back to Zero with the circle, and it’s implied they spend time with Ensa while they’re not on the Albatross.

The Riptide Pirates used the teleportation circle to bring all of the survivors of the Black Sea to Canella, and they were all transported into the keep, much to Ensas dismay. She called the pirates, yelling about people in her house before abruptly hanging up. Jay called Ensa again a couple of days later and asked her to mail a couple of letters, and after more complaining about the strangers in her home she sent off their post to the Dolphin Postal Service.
