Personality[]
Magnus is described as quite dense, and is generally laid back. He takes a lot of joy in fighting vampires. He doesn't quite see vampires as human, but has the capacity to as shown through his friendship with Arthur. He's quick to act and isn't adverse to violence. Magnus has a dry sense of humor, and pokes fun at Arthur who, in contrast, is very stoic. The menial tasks Arthur makes him do annoys him. He is always a little bit angry because of the fate of his sister. His goal is peace, and he thinks the elimination of vampires is the way to achieve that. He considers Arthur his best friend.
Background[]
Pre Canon[]
Magnus's sister was turned into a ghoul by a vampire, and he had to watch her decline. After this, he developed a lifelong vendetta against vampires, no longer viewing them as human. He eventually became a vampire hunter with the Grimslayers, while also befriending Arthur Bennett despite him being a kindred.
During Canon[]
In planning a raid on Club Crepuscule, Magnus flew Arthur down to LA. He got him a BnB in Chinatown. The goal of the raid was to take out Mayor Thorne and destabilize vampire society in the city. Once Arthur got to the BnB, he called Magnus to check in. Magnus was upset Arthur was calling him so late, but gave him the rest of the details about the coming attack. He told Arthur to stay out of the line of fire if he could, and Arthur said he would try. Magnus left a Grimslayer uniform at one of their dead drop locations in the city so that Arthur could wear it if he wanted to. Arthur failed to hang up the phone, as he is very bad with technology and Magnus's shouting was interrupted by his husband, Jerome. Arthur finally threw the phone out of the window, and Magnus prepared for the fight.
During the raid, Magnus was one of the Grimslayers armed with stake crossbows to break through the skylight into the club. He told the other slayers not to fire at Arthur, although one of them did anyways. The attack succeeded in killing Mayor Thorne and destabilizing vampire society, and Magnus got out mostly scot free.
The next night, Arthur called him again asking for materials to kill a vampire. Magnus was understandably upset about his rest being disturbed the night after such a big fight. He also told Arthur that the Grimslayers had announced The Queen had been killed in a second raid on Umber Castle. Arthur asked him for wooden bullets, stakes, and silver, and Magnus agreed to get him everything except the bullets. He showed up at the BnB a few hours later to drop off the materials, but spotted Emizel kicking dumpsters outside. He immediately recognized him as a vampire and staked him through the heart. Grefgor saw this and jumped down on Magnus from the roof, but impaled himself on a stake. Arthur answered the door and dragged the two staked kindred inside, taking the weapons from Magnus. Arthur told him about his plan to confront his sire as well as the lie he had told Deacon about being a spy. He told Arthur to leave Emizel and Grefgor staked until he left then drove away.
Arthur left Magnus a note at one of their dead drop locations, telling him to come to Riverside Senior Living as backup in his confrontation with his sire. Arthur and Anya went out into a courtyard, and after a heated discussion Arthur reflected light off of his sunglasses towards the spot where Magnus was hiding. Magnus got the signal, and shot a stake at Anya, hitting her directly in the heart. Now that she was unable to fight back, Arthur burned her. Afterwards Magnus and Arthur had a discussion, where Arthur told him if he ever lost to the beast he wanted Magnus to kill him. Magnus said if he was ever turned into a vampire he would want Arthur to do the same. The two shook hands and went their separate ways.
Upon returning from The Midnight Circle, Arthur left Magnus a note to meet up the next night. The two convened outside the ruins of Club Crepuscule, and Arthur explained his new appearance and experience with the Tremere. He said he might have the ability to find the vampire who had killed Magnus’s sister as long as he had an item belonging to either the sister or the vampire. Magnus gave him a pair of dinosaur earrings that had belonged to his sister. Arthur was unable to find anything of note with his ability, but Magnus was thankful for the attempt. Magnus relied that the Grimslayers had been keeping a close eye on his location. Arthur warned him about the vampire party happening the next night, asking Magnus and Jerome to get out of town if they could. Arthur gave Magnus a note, asking him to bring it to the leader of the Grimslayers who Arthur believed to be the friend of his late father. Magnus agreed to try.
