"GILLION!" -Marshall John, after seeing Gillion again for the first time.
Marshal John is a friend and ally of the Riptide Pirates and a current crew member of the Grandberry Pirates, introduced in Episode 1: Starting From Zero and has since become a recurring NPC. As an NPC, he is played by Grizzly.
Description
Marshal John is a burly male human, with brown skin and swirling, tribal-like tattoos that cover his arms. His hair is thick, short and jet black, and he has muttonchops that come to a point on the sides. He sports a dirty white-collared Navy uniform with the sleeves torn off.
Background/History
Marshal John is an ex-Navy leader who was stationed on the Island of Zero to collect taxes and find recruits. Before he was initially dispatched to Zero, he and his crew were badly beaten while trying to stop the Grandberry Pirates and their leader Elizabeth from raiding the city. After Lizzie beat them, she gave an inspiring speech to John who took her words to heart after a fateful encounter with Gillion Tidestrider. While stationed in Zero, John met Gillion who, like Lizzie, gave a speech to him about how he should be free and live for himself. After the party left Zero, John decided to act on what he had been told and fought with the navy before taking his ship and sailing away on a quest to find and join Lizzie's crew.
After the Navy invasion on Joaldo Island, John was dog-piled by a group of Navy soldiers and captured much to the dismay of the Riptide Pirates. His fate had been left relatively ambiguous, but with a heavy emphasis on nothing good as in a conversation with Jay he stated he would more than likely be killed if caught again, and in Episode 50: The Block his execution was said to be drawing near. He was brought to a maximum security prison known as The B.L.O.C.K, where every prisoner who enters never leaves.
John was downed while traversing a room in the ever-changing B.L.O.C.K that was eternally in a state of subzero, hypothermia inducing winter. While the specifics of what happened to him in that room are unknown, he was discovered by Jay beneath a sheet of snow, completely frozen and unmoving. The ice encasing him has a crumb of arcane magic according to Gillion, but even then was unknown if it could be thawed, and even if it were thawed, whether he would still be alive underneath.
