Description
Ob'nockshai is a very powerful awakened Dreamer, a god-like being who creates worlds in a state of sleep. However, he posed as the deity of time in order to appear more powerful to Br'aad, a half-elf boy who had accidentally made a pact with him in order to gain power. He commonly changed his appearance every time he is seen by Br'aad, the only constant being that he is visually a male. He is described as an aberration so strong and chaotic that he can create trickery with merely his thoughts. He also revels in the idea of confusion and pain.
It is also described that he deems relationships with mortals trivial and meaningless.
His symbol is described as an hourglass slightly cocked to the side, with three circular rings that accompany the background.
Background/History
Ob'nockshai is the bastard son of the Elder God of Time, and the Elder God of Trickery. He is described as a hellspawn of a being that should never have been created and was also hated by every other deity. When the two elder gods realized their mistake, they confided him in a time chamber in a cavern deep beneath the dwarven kingdom where he was never meant to leave. They gave him one purpose alone, which was to alert the gods a month before a giant hourglass named Unhalektong ran out so the gods would have time to prepare for the onslaught that the dragon turtles would bring every 124 years. He was given this role to help keep the material realm safe, but he abandoned his post.
Roughly a year before the start of Arc 1, Br'aad, trying to become stronger and more capable like his brother, summons Ob'nockshai. Unaware of the consequences, Br'aad accidentally forms a pact with the deity in exchange for power.
Interesting Features
Ob'nockshai is known for his 'games' that he plays with Br'aad. These games are a means for entertainment to Ob'nockshai, while granting Br'aad a chance at what he may need or desire in that moment. These games are frequently biased towards Ob'nockshai.
Arc 1
Ob'nockshai makes his first appearance in episode 1, The Great King's Wharf, as he stops time for Br'aad, playing a coin game with him to reveal information on The Barber. Ob'nockshai appears again in episode 9, Out Of Time, where he stops time for everyone but Br'aad. After allowing Br'aad to move objects to fall on the time-frozen Jaquot, Ob'nockshai teleports Br'aad against his will to the tavern where Velrisa and Taxi are currently in combat and restarts time. Ob'nockshai makes another appearance in episode 25, The Drowned City, when he warns Br'aad that "an ancient evil" lurks among them. He drags Br'aad into the water, making him play another 'game', in the form of a chess match. In exchange for winning, he offers to unlock Br'aad's 'true potential', but in exchange for a loss, he ensures that Hilltree will not be found from the depths of the water. Br'aad wins, and Ob'nockshai follows through with his offer, allowing Br'aad the temporary power to save Hilltree.
Arc 2
Ob'nockshai appears in front of Br'aad in episode 1, The Hunt For The Bastard Son, requesting that he pull a heist on the play being held in Shaygrove. He threatens consequences for failing to do so. Ob'nockshai appears again at the ending of episode 9, An Unmarked Grave, as he listens to Br'aad's request for the life of Velrisa to be spared. This carries over into episode 10, A Riddle In Time, where he bargains with Br'aad for Velrisa's life. He presents that a child die in exchange for the life of Velrisa, which Br'aad declines. He describes this choice as a 'game'. Ob'nockshai is suddenly restrained by The Storyteller, who reveals that Ob'nockshai has been 'playing games' with Br'aad's timeline, and that Ob'nockshai caused the deaths of both Sylnan and Velrisa. The Storyteller fixes Br'aad's timeline, setting him back to moments before Velrisa died. The Storyteller breaks Ob'nockshai's pact with Br'aad temporarily, and Ob'nockshai's ties to the material plain.
