"MUTINY! MUTINY!"

Ollie Teach is a half-elven NPC who lives on the island of Canella, he is played by GrizzlyPlays.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Ollie is first described simply as a thin, 15 year old half-elven boy with short brown hair. His voice is horse and closer to that of a teenager. When he uses Niklaus’s compass, his appearance changes to that of a young man. He is 6’4 and still thin and lanky, with his brown hair longer than before and a bit of stubble on his chin. His face becomes more masculine, and his freckles become more defined. There are also visible stretch marks from growing far too fast.

In episode 56, Ollie’s youthful appearance is returned to him, and he looks the way he did when the pirates first met him. His voice becomes much higher pitched and childlike, and the stretch marks from growing too quickly remain.

In episode 68, he is gifted a bright green feather from Ichabod, which he tucks behind his ear.

In episode 87, his design is fully updated. He now has pale skin and a very small face, with extremely long elven ears. His now very long brown hair is swept back and tied into two braids woven through with red cloth. He wears the eye patch given to him by Chip, flipping it up and down over his bright green eyes. He wears a loose fitting silky black shirt, and over that a red furlined vest. Chip’s old bandana is tied around his left arm, and he wears the enormous Belt of Mountain Giant strength around his waist. His pants are plain brownish gray with light stripes, and he wears shin high brown boots.

Personality[]

Ollie is timid and shy when the crew first meets him, still scared of others from years of being bullied in Canella. He is changed a lot by his time at sea, and by the time he leaves the Albatross, he is feisty and spirited. Many of Chip’s traits and antics rub off on him, such as pranks, general mischief, and a desire to be a pirate. He is mature for his age as a result of his time with the Riptide Pirates, particularly the time he spent as a young man. At first, Ollie desperately wanted to return to his home, but after spending so much time with the crew he grew attached. He wanted to see his mother and make sure she was ok, but he also didn’t want to leave the family he had found at sea. Part of the reason he stayed on the ship for so long was him asking for one more adventure after every island that they traveled to. After his return to Canella he was happy to be home, but still wanted to be a pirate. He wants to rejoin the crew one day when he’s old enough. He isn’t good at lying, and when the pirates first met him he strictly followed the instructions of authority figures. By the time he returned to Canella, he had mischievous tendencies and didn’t listen to his elders as strictly.

Background/History[]

Oliver Teach grew up in Zero, Canella with his mother Ella. His father wasn’t present, as he chose to continue sailing as a pirate lord even when his wife Ella wanted to settle down for the safety of her unborn child, Oliver. When he was young, Oliver was bullied a lot. He told Chip that other kids would steal his clothes while he showered and wouldn’t let him play ball with them. He had a good relationship with his mother, but in a fit of rebellion he ran away from home after she grounded him. He hid on a navy ship overnight, which happened to be the same ship Marshall John stole to defect from the navy and leave Canella. By the time Marshall John realized Oliver was on the ship, they were far from Canella and the ex-officer refused to bring him back. John thought keeping Oliver with him would protect him from the violent revolution happening in Canella.

About two months later, Marshall John and Oliver happened to cross paths with the Riptide Pirates. The two crews spent some time together, and Chip immediately took a liking to Oliver, giving him the nickname Ollie in episode 17. The two bonded over painting boobs and googly eyes on the Riptide Pirates flag. Ollie chose to stay on the Albatross instead of Marshall John’s ship, because he was scared of John and didn’t want to do chores. On the first night after the two crews convened, they were compelled by the siren song of the mermaid Aslana and all five of them, including Ollie, were taken captive. Ollie and Marshall John were taken separately from the Riptide Pirates. They were trapped by the three sisters Aslana, Maria, and Satasha to be brought before Empress Malice, who wanted to test if they were “the one” she was searching for. Before they could be tested, the three captains were brought before the Empress and passed her test, leading her to believe Gillion was “the one.” Ollie and John were spared the trial, and after the captains defeated Malice and saved the people who had been turned to stone they were released. Ollie was tasked with bringing the abandoned Albatross back to land, but he didn’t know how to steer the ship and crashed it into John’s boat.

After leaving Desire Island, Ollie chose to stay on the Albatross instead of Marshall John’s ship. Chip gave him Niklaus’s compass, which he had told the other captains he had thrown away. He asked Ollie not to tell anyone he had it. Ollie asked him for 50 silver in exchange for watching over it, and Chip agreed, handing over the compass. The crew was ambushed by goblins, and Ollie was knocked unconscious during the fight. Jay quickly healed him, but Chip slaughtered the goblins in an act of crazed revenge. The crew continued their travel to Joaldo Island, and Ollie was left on the Albatross while the crew fought in the Paramount Tournament. During the time he was left alone, he frequently checked the compass he was given by Chip. The corrupting powers of the compass took effect on him, and his desire to return to his home was twisted, making him grow to be physically a young adult. When the island was attacked by R.A.F.T., he was hiding inside Gillion’s sleeping barrel on the Albatross. Chip and the rest of the crew tried to find him, but he continued to hide out of shame and fear towards his sudden growth spurt. Eventually Jay found him, and they departed from Joaldo. The captains confronted him about what had happened, and he confessed he had been using the compass. Chip took it from him, and it was hidden away in the briefcase of holding.

His first real adventure was Edison Kingdom. He was coerced into following the captains for the whole endeavor, accompanying the three to the second and then third levels of the kingdom. On the second level, they entered a casino where Ollie spoke to Karina, a cocktail waitress who formerly worked in the Blue Royale Casino. She gave him the hard drive containing the consciousness of Mr. D.A.I.C.E., the artificial intelligence who had been operating the Blue Royale Casino. Traveling up to the third level, they concocted a plan to infiltrate the palace and attack the king. Ollie accompanied them, pairing up with Chip to steal from the royal treasury. With his increased strength as a young adult, Ollie was very helpful in getting into the palace and helping Chip along the way. Ollie became emotionally attached to Puddle the horse during this excursion, who helped them escape from the palace when guarding constructs started to chase them. The three tried to escape out of a window, but Ollie fell off of Puddle’s back and started to fall towards the ground. Chip threw the briefcase of holding underneath his feet to save him, and he made it out of the palace safely. Puddle was much more damaged by the fall, and asked Ollie to name him in his last moments, which he did. Ollie mourned the loss of the horse before learning that Gillion could always summon him again. The adventure gave Ollie some comfort, and for the first time since he grew up he was content. When the Blossom Boss tried to take down the second layer of the kingdom, Ollie, Garieth Watts, and the young King Edison were tasked with bringing the people of the first level to safety. After the captains defeated the Boss, Ollie and the rest of the Riptide Pirates departed from Edison Kingdom.

The crew went on to the B.L.O.C.K. to rescue Marshall John, and Ollie was left on the Albatross with Alphonze while Chip, Jay, and Gillion infiltrated the base. The three returned with Marshall John and Drey Ferin. Drey tried to pee in a cup Ollie had painted, resulting in a fight between John, Ollie, Alphonze, Drey, and Old Man Earl. Later that night, Chip was transported to the pocket dimension controlled by Niklaus Hendrix. He struck a deal with the wish doctor, agreeing to save Arlin under the sea, not interfere with Gillion’s favor to Niklaus, and to not disturb the “orb” under the sea in exchange for returning Ollie’s youth. When Ollie woke up the next morning, his appearance had returned to the small, half elven boy he had been when they first picked him up.

The next island the crew traveled to was Allport. Chip bought Ollie a Belt of Mountain Giant Strength, which greatly enhanced his strength. The captains were tasked by Edyn Tidestrider to infiltrate the R.A.F.T. base on Allport, and Ollie was left on the ship. The venture went poorly, and Ollie got Alphonze to blast a hole in the side of the navy base and save Chip, Jay, and Gillion. The captains were saved, and the crew quickly departed from Allport. Old Man Earl decided to stay in Allport, and Ollie begged him to stay but he refused.

Traveling on to Noctis, Ollie pulled an all-nighter with Chip, who was aiming to avoid the effects of a nightmarish curse. Some time passed, and Ollie fell asleep. When he woke back up, a full nighttime had passed but the sun hadn’t come up. They realized the island of Noctis was under eternal night, and the captains left Ollie on the Albatross for safety. He was left on the ship with Old Man Earl and Alphonze for the entire adventure. This was intended to be Ollie’s last adventure before he was brought home.

Back at sea, they ran into Ichabod, who took a liking to Ollie. Ichabod accompanied them to Liquidus, and as they parted ways he gave Ollie the green feather from his hat. The three captains traveled to the Feywild from Liquidus and left Ollie, Gryffon, and Alphonze with one goal- make a limonade stand. The three took this very seriously, and when the captains returned two weeks later they had pioneered a limonade empire and made fifty thousand gold. Ollie spearheaded the venture, and was very excited to see the captains when they returned.

Sailing to a C-Mart, the crew ran into some navy officers. Ollie told the manager of the store he would buy all of their lottery tickets if he would help them out of the situation, and he agreed. Ollie pretended Chip was his grandma while Gillion pretended to be a rock, and with the help of Jay and the clerk they successfully avoided arrest. Ollie got new clothes, and they traveled on to Allport. During the journey, Gryffon told Ollie there was a “great shark” in the water and if he caught it he would gain “magic powers.” Taking up fishing, he accidentally pulled Aslana and her mother onto the Albatross, leading to a happy reunion of friends. Ollie stayed up all night trying to catch the shark, but failed.

Arriving in the world capital a second time, Ollie was excited to see Old Man Earl again. When they arrived at the new tavern he had been running, he criticized Ollie’s juice selling tactics. Jay got a magic tattoo that allowed her to fly, and tested it out by flying Ollie around Allport. They arranged to meet with Roofus for drinks, but Roofus never showed up. The captains, with Ollie in tow, went to the Divine Barkanist to see where Roofus was and found themselves in a naval ambush. Chip sent Ollie back to the ship to call for reinforcements, and he returned with Queen, Gryffon, and Alphonze. His presence in the fight was helpful, as it is later noted Kira was likely holding back in the battle because they had a child with them.

After inciting a very intense game of tag, Ollie continued fishing for the shark Gryffon had told him about. Eventually he got a bite, but he couldn’t pull it up even with his Belt of Mountain Giant Strength and the help of Alphonze. He had attracted the electrodon, a huge electrified shark. He was immediately thrown into the water along with Alphonze, who kept him out of the water because he couldn’t swim. The shark sent electric currents through the water, and Alphonze was killed by the overload of electricity. Ollie was knocked unconscious, and stayed out of the water by laying on Alphonze’s body. He was recovered by Gillion, and mourned Alphonze in the aftermath of the battle.

Finally, the Riptide Pirates returned Ollie to his home in Zero. Right before they got back, Ollie gave Chip a notebook detailing their time together, but told him not to open it until Ollie was gone. After they docked the extremely damaged Albatross, Ollie brought them to an old friend, a baker named Mr. Rico. He told the crew that Ollie’s mother was very ill, and thought Ollie was dead. They rushed to the Canvas District, the rundown, poorer section of the town where Ella Teach was staying. Upon seeing Ollie, she completely broke down. He apologized for leaving, and told her all about his adventures while he sailed with the crew. Ollie was left to catch up with his mother while Chip and Jay set up rigged carnival games and investigated the gang that had been threatening to burn down the hospital Ella had been residing in. Ollie and Ella, now moving around but still in a wheelchair, visited the carnival stand and Ollie beat the rigged game. Chip gave him King Edison’s Tomb of Thoughts as a prize.

As the carnival festivities went on, they heard screams coming from further up in the mountains. Ollie led Chip, Jay, and Gillion through a secret path, up the hills and to the source of the screams- a woman repeatedly running into a house, then getting thrown back out the front door by an unseen force. Her name was Ensa, and the captains insisted they help her with this house problem. They all tried to enter the house with varying degrees of success, and when Ollie went inside he was affected by one of the creatures in the house to think he was going to die. The five of them eventually cleared out the monsters, and Chip was able to magically claim the house as his own as a result of the Throne card he had drawn from the Deck of Many Things. Chip agreed to let Ensa keep staying in the house as long as she also let Ollie and Ella stay with her. Ensa agreed, and Ollie and Ella moved in that night.

Waking up the next morning, Gillion’s curse had progressed to a deadly extent, and the captains had to leave Canella to cure it. As they were leaving, they called Ollie and told him to collect the rest of the crew and deal with the gang of thieves who had been threatening to burn down the hospital in the Canvas District. Along with Drey, Gryffon, and Queen, they saved many of the people in the facility, but weren’t able to save the building itself.

When the captains got back, they claimed the island of Canella under their protection and got to work renovating Ensa’s keep. Chip built a new room for Ollie, modeled after the crew's quarters on the Albatross. Ollie was over the moon when he saw it, and took back the notebook he had previously given to Chip, saying it wasn’t good enough. He told Chip he would miss him, and said he wanted to come back on the ship one day when he was older. Ella told Chip and Gillion that Ollie had a pirate's blood, and that Captain Shadowbeard had been his father. She told them that his older brother, who she had given birth to at sea, had died in a conflict before he had even been named. This was why Ollie hadn’t grown up with a father, as Ella had chosen the safety of her son over continuing to sail with Shadowbeard.

Finally, the pirates set back out to sea and left Ollie with Ensa and Ella on Canella. Ensa said she would start to teach him how to operate and maintain the teleporter she had built so that she wouldn’t have to stay on Canella anymore, allowing her to join the Riptide Pirates full time. They called him to check in after a huge battle with Jayson Ferin and Kira, and he said he had been watching the fight. He was sad to not be with them anymore, but still happy to be home with his mother.
