The Trickster official art

"I came to watch them burn... Ha! I'm just kidding. So tense in here!" -The Trickster, to the Prime Defenders

The Trickster is a demon that was possessing the body of Ashe Winters after being summoned as a last-resort to defeat Overlord.

Description[]

Appearance[]

It is currently unknown what The Trickster's "true form" looks like, or if he even has one due to the nature of his summoning. While possessing Ashe, The Trickster had a wide, manic grin which stretches across his face, red skin covered in runes and black, feathered wings. Additionally, he is depicted in the official art as having sharper teeth and pointed, claw-like fingernails. As this is Ashe's body, he maintained the same long grey hair and face of his host.

Outfit[]

The Trickster wears a version of Ashe's hero outfit consisting of a torn, deep purple robe and a green belt, though the robe is now imprinted with tiny lines of runes which criss-cross. Around his neck is a tattered black scarf with those same runes written across it.

Personality[]

The Trickster switches between childlike and nervous to deadpan and menacing on a dime, which only adds to his unpredictable and frankly terrifying nature as a villain. He seems ecstatic to be freed of The Chaos Zone, as when asked by William, The Trickster simply says he's from "Hell", presumably referring to the nightmarish state of The Chaos Zone, rather than being from actual Hell.

Background/History[]

Upon being summoned for the first time by Ashe, The Trickster took over his body and killed his mother while she was helping him study the book. It is unknown how Ashe managed to regain control the first time. Afterwards, The Trickster's page was ripped out of the book, only being put back in when Ashe decided to sacrifice himself to save his friends from Overlord. When he managed to fully possess Ashe, The Trickster seemed very happy to finally be free, before quickly disappearing behind a portal door.

In s2e39, William manages to learn from Ashe's book that The Trickster was actually an amalgamation of the souls of the five former leaders of the Spirit World, known as The Array. They were fused together after being cast into the Chaos Zone by Clarence.

Relationships[]

Ashe Winters[]

Ashe was the Trickster's former host. The Trickster seemed somewhat attached to him, refusing to accept Dakota's sacrifice in favour of remaining in Ashe's body.

Mallard Conway[]

Whether The Trickster is partially possessing Mal or not currently remains unclear, but as of s2e39 Mallard has absorbed The Trickster and is using his power to seemingly ascend to godhood.
